IRI (A) MEP Flight Instructor Course

Instrument rating Instructor course - IRI (A)

The Instrument Rating Instructor (IRI) course qualifies the holder of the IRI(A) rating to act as
an instructor in any approved training organisation, providing specialised Instrument Flight
Instructor (IR) training.

IRI (A) training program

The IRI training course is divided into 3 parts:

Teaching & Learning Course
- Applicants who hold or have held an instructor certificate shall not be required to
  undertake this part.
Technical theoretical instruction.
Flight instruction

THEORETICAL TRAINING

25 hours of Teaching & Learning instruction.
10 hours of technical training.

NOTE
Applicants who hold or have held an instructor’s certificate are not required to take
the Teaching & Learning shall not be required to take the theoretical course Teaching
& Learning.

Authorised instructor certificates: FI(A), IRI(A), TRI(A), SFI(A), STI(A), MCC(A), FI(H), TRI(H), IRI(H), SFI(H).

PRACTICAL TRAINING

All practical hours are conducted in real flight.

If you do not hold a FI(A) Rating:

10 hours of dual flight instruction in multi-engine aircraft (MEP).
Flight test (1:30 hours).

If you hold a FI(A) rating:

5 hours of dual flight instruction in multi-engine aircraft (MEP).
Flight test (1:30 hours).

The IRI Flight Instructor course includes

THEORETICAL TRAINING

Theoretical classes.

FLIGHT TRAINING

Practical (flight) lessons.
Examination flight time.

Duration of IRI training

Theoretical training: The estimated duration of the theoretical course is 2 weeks.
Practical training: The estimated duration of the practical training is 1-2 weeks.

TOTAL: 3 – 4 weeks.

*If you have a FI(A) rating, this would be 6.5 hours of actual flight time.
